Homemade McChicken Sandwich Fakeaway Recipe

Recreate the McDonald’s McChicken Sandwich at home with this easy and delicious Fakeaway recipe! Crispy breaded chicken, fresh lettuce, and creamy mayo in a soft bun—simple and satisfying.


Ingredients

For the Chicken Fillet:

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder

For the Coating:

  • 150g plain flour
  • 50g cornflour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp baking powder

For Frying:

  • 500ml vegetable oil (for deep frying)

For Assembling:

  • 2 soft burger buns
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce

Instructions

1. Marinate the Chicken

  1. Flatten the chicken breasts slightly for even cooking.
  2. In a bowl, mix buttermilk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Submerge the chicken and marinate for at least 2 hours (overnight for best results).

2. Prepare the Coating

  1. In another bowl, mix flour, cornflour, salt, black pepper, paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, and baking powder.
  2. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting excess drip off.
  3. Coat the chicken in the flour mixture, pressing firmly to create a thick, crispy coating.

3. Fry the Chicken

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 170°C (340°F).
  2. Fry the coated chicken for 5-6 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Drain on a wire rack or paper towels.

4. Assemble the McChicken

  1. Lightly toast the buns for extra texture.
  2. Spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun.
  3. Place the crispy chicken fillet on top.
  4. Add shredded lettuce, then cover with the top bun.
